Analysis of Low Lead and Cadmium Concentrations in Soil Extracts by Graphite Furnace Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry
نویسنده
چکیده
An analytical procedure was derived to provide an accurate measurement of low lead (Pb) and cadmium (Cd) concentrations in soil extracts using graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry (GFAAS). Based on peak area measurements and with background correction, the use of 2% phosphoric acid as chemical modifier enables the GFAAS to give measurements of Pb and Cd concentration as low as 3 fLg dmwith a high degree of precision. The modifier ensures a single well-defined atomization peak of the analyte, and therefore higher sensitivity and accuracy in the measurements.

Measurement of cadmium residues in muscle, liver and kidney of cattle slaughtered in Isfahan abattoir using grafite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry (GFAAS): a preliminary study
The aim of the present study was to determine the levels of cadmium in the muscle, liver and kidney of cattle from Isfahan and to compare the results with those reported by other countries and with the maximum acceptable levels for human consumption. Samples of muscle, liver and kidney from 60 animals aged 1–10- year-old were collected from the carcasses slaughtered at Isfahan abattoir. Samples...
متن کاملInvestigation of Distribution for Trace Lead and Cadmium in Chinese Herbal Medicines and Their Decoctions by Graphite Furnace Atomic Absorption Spectrometry
Lead and cadmium in herbal medicines are highly toxic to living organisms even in low concentrations. An effective method is developed for analysis of trace lead and cadmium in Chinese herbal medicines and their decoctions by graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry (GFAAS). The effects of analytical conditions on absorbance were investigated and optimized. A water-dissolving capability ...
متن کاملLead and cadmium in human placentas and maternal and neonatal blood (in a heavily polluted area) measured by graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry.
OBJECTIVE To measure the concentrations of the trace elements lead and cadmium in human placenta and in maternal and neonatal (cord) blood. To assess the influence of the strongly polluted environment on the content of metals in tissues and on the permeability of placenta to cadmium and lead. Various methods of mineralisation were tested before analysis. METHODS Graphite furnace atomic absorp...
متن کاملDetermination of Lead and Cadmium in Human Milk and Measure Some of its Composition
Infants are particularly sensitive to the toxic effects of lead. It is very important to know the contribution of milk to lead intake. The purpose of this study is to determine lead and cadmium present in samples of human milk by using graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry (GFAAS).Thirty human milk samples from three different localities were collected from healthy lactating women on ...
متن کاملStudy of the versatility of a graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometric method for the determination of cadmium in the environmental field.
Cadmium is a representative example of trace elements that are insidious and widespread health hazards. In contemporary environmental analysis, there is a clear trend toward its determination over a wide range of concentrations in complex matrixes. This paper describes a versatile method for the determination of Cd at various levels (0.1-500 microg/g) in several sample types, such as soils, sed...
